This week’s Blue Heron Athlete of the Week is Hanover Wildcat Matt Zarybynicky. This past Saturday in the 8 Man Division II playoffs Zarybnicky ran for 154 yards on just 13 carries…and found the end zone 4 times! The 80-30 blowout win over Colony-Crest sets up a TVL rematch with B&B in Baileyville this Friday night at 7 p.m. Phil Kasper has the call here on KCLY and at kclyradio.com.

Blue Heron Athlete of the Week

The Blue Heron Athlete of the Week Axtell Eagle Cross Country Runner Audrey Schmitz; Audrey this past weekend took her 3rd state cross country championship of her high school career! She ran a time of 15:49.10 Saturday at the Wamego Country Club. After taking 5th at state her freshman year; Schmitz has now won three straight individual State Championships; and this year led her team to a runner up 2nd place finish.
A remarkable year; and career at Axtell for Audrey Schmitz; the Blue Heron Athlete of the Week!

Blue Heron Athlete of the Week

The Blue Heron Athlete of the Week is the Washington County Lady Tiger Volleyball team…they are headed to 2A State. After a win over #1 ranked Burlingame in last week’s Sub State; Washington County now heads to Emporia; where last year they finished in a 2nd place runner up. Now they head back to State led by:
Erin Alexander–268 kills; Samantha Le’Cuyer–220 kills; Megan Stegman–217 kills and Kylie Penning–758 assists.
Coach Juenamen’s team will come in as the #1 seed overall and take the court for first serve at 10 a.m. tomorrow morning here on KCLY.

Blue Heron Athlete of the Week

The Blue Heron Athlete of the Week is Wakefield Bomber Brandon Taylor. The Bomber junior put up big number again last Friday night in a 46-20 win over Pike Valley. Taylor went for 102 yards on 20 carries and went into the end zone 2 times on the ground. Add to that some efficient work through the air as well. Taylor would hall in 2 passes for 68 yards; one of those 60 yards for a TD! Taylor; along with a few other Bombers through the season has competed for both coach Chris Freeman on the football field; but also for coach Ladd Braden on the cross country course…and he has excelled in both. He will play Friday night at home against Rock Hills; then head to Leonardville Saturday morning for Regional Cross Country.

Blue Heron Athlete of the Week

This Week’s Blue Heron Athlete of the Week is Riley County Falcon Bryce Chavis. The Falcons this past Football Friday put 61 on St. Mary’s in a 61-30 Mid East league win at Riley’s Hal Pritchard stadium. Chavis accounted for Seven of those touchdowns! On 15 carries Bryce Chavis ran for 272 yards; and found the end zone 7 times. In addition he threw for 181 yards. That’s a total yardage of 453 yards combined.

Blue Heron Athlete of the Week

The Blue Heron Athlete of the Week is Riley County Falcon Trace Nelson. The Falcon sophomore scored 3 touchdowns in the Falcons first win of the season Friday night over Wabaunsee 48-16. One TD early went 58 yards from the line of scrimmage…he topped that though in the early 3rd quarter when he went 81 yards to house on a kick off return. In addition to 3 TD’s Nelson ran for 89 yards on just 4 carries.
An outstanding performance makes Trace Nelson this week’s Blue Heron Athlete of the Week.

Blue Heron Athlete of the Week

This week’s Blue Heron Athlete of the Week is Clay Center Tiger Cross Country Runner Austin Sturdy. This past week Austin ran away from the field at the Republic County Invitational held at the Belleville Country Club.
Austin Sturdy claimed gold at the event as he ran a time of 16:44.53; he finished 16 seconds faster than the 2nd place runner.
Along with Sturdy’s individual championship; he led the Clay Center Tiger boys team to the Team Title as well.
One of the elite runners across the state; this week’s Blue Heron Athlete of the Week is Tiger Cross Country’s Austin Sturdy.

Blue Heron Athlete of the Week

It’s time to announce the Blue Heron Athlete of the Week.
This week it belongs to The Blue Valley Rams Levi Peter. The speedster helped get the Rams to a second straight win to start the season as Blue Valley took a 56-36 win at home in Randolph this past Friday.
Peter Found the end zone ‘Four’ times and had his Rams up 36-8 at halftime.
Levi did it in several ways; amassing 182 yards of total offense on the night.
Tremendous performance from Levi Peter of Blue Valley; it earns him the Blue Heron Athlete of the Week!

The Blue Heron Athlete of the Week

Here’s a new feature that will be announced every Thursday; The Blue Heron Athlete of the Week. We will look at a performance by an athlete from the KCLY Community in a high school Fall Sport: Golf; Tennis; Cross Country; Volleyball or Football.
This week’s Blue Heron Athlete of the Week is the Clay Center Tiger’s Caleb Carson.
Carson in the opening Football Friday against Riley County racked up some phenomenol numbers.
Where do you start?
It could be the 4 touchdowns scored.
It could be the 314 yards rushing…314! That was on 20 carries; 15.7 per carry.
You can add 57 yards passing; completing 4-9.
Two extra points kicked; 2 punts that averaged 36.5 yards.
6 tackles on the defensive side as well.
Oh and the go ahead touchdown pass to Ricky Huse with 13 seconds to go in the game.
An amazing performance…and certainly worthy of being named the Blue Heron Athlete of the Week!
