Caglianone Hits First Two Career Homers in Royals’ Sweep of Rangers

Royals rookie Jac Caglianone hit his first two career home runs Thursday in Kansas City’s 4-1 win over the Rangers, helping the team complete its first sweep in Arlington since 2003.

Caglianone hit a 387-foot homer in the second inning and followed with a 439-foot blast in the ninth, becoming just the fourth player in Royals history to hit his first two homers in the same game.

The 21-year-old received the silent treatment in the dugout after his first homer before teammates finally celebrated with him. He later added a more traditional welcome after his second.

Caglianone had entered the game hitting .196 with no homers in 14 games since his debut on June 3. The Royals’ top prospect credited extra work and support from teammates for the breakthrough.

Vinnie Pasquantino also homered as Michael Wacha threw six strong innings to secure the sweep.
