Kansas State’s Maralgoo and Martaa Chogsomjav advanced in the singles main draw Friday at the ITA Central Regional Championships.
Freshman Martaa defeated Wichita State’s Tatyana Nikolenko 7-5, 6-3 to move on after winning two qualifying matches Thursday, including a three-set comeback against Missouri’s Zoe Lazar. Junior Maralgoo, who entered directly into the main draw, earned a 7-6 (7-4), 7-5 win over Oklahoma’s Laura Brunkel.
In doubles play, Maralgoo and sophomore Chanel Rustemova opened with an 8-5 victory over North Dakota’s Alva Norberg and Andrea Pineda before falling 8-7 (8-6) in the round of 16 to Nebraska’s Reya Coe and Yuzu Miyoshi.
Freshman Diana Smolinska also picked up a singles win in Thursday’s qualifying round. The Wildcats continue play Saturday as the Chogsomjav sisters look to advance deeper into the main draw at the Headington Family Tennis Center.
