U.S. Senator Jerry Moran voted Monday to pass a major appropriations package that includes new federal investments for Kansas military installations and other state priorities. The legislation now moves to the U.S. House of Representatives for approval.
As a senior member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, Moran helped secure funding for infrastructure and defense upgrades at Fort Riley and Fort Leavenworth. The package provides $26 million for a new air traffic control tower at Fort Riley, $5.5 million to modernize its intermodal railyard security, and $2.6 million to improve the railyard staging area to support faster military deployment.
At Fort Leavenworth, $8 million will go toward a new fire station and $900,000 will fund updates to an aging facility.
Additional Kansas investments include $4.2 million for long-term agricultural water management in the Rattlesnake Creek Watershed and $1.8 million to support the new nursing program at Barclay College. The legislation also funds the Departments of Veterans Affairs and Agriculture, ensuring continued operation of programs such as SNAP and WIC.
