Omaha-based Hansen-Mueller Co. has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, leaving farmers and grain businesses, including several in Kansas, waiting to be paid for recent grain deliveries.
Kansas companies on the list of the company’s 20 largest creditors include Agmark LLC in Beloit, owed $2.1 million, and Alliance Ag and Grain in Spearville, owed about $1 million. Other Kansas creditors include: Stafford County Flour Mills Co., Hudson, Kansas, $620,191; Sublette Coop Inc., Sublette, Kansas, $615,050; The Hi-Plains Cooperative, Colby, Kansas, $571,354; Frontier Ag Inc., Goodland, Kansas, $774,128; and Home City Grain Inc., Home, Kansas, $769,431.
These creditors are unsecured, meaning there is no collateral backing the money owed, so they face a higher risk of not being paid.
The company said in a news release on Monday that it is “pursuing a strategic financial restructuring to address its current financial challenges, facilitate the sale of its assets, and maximize recoveries for its creditors and stakeholders.” Kansas farmers and grain businesses affected by the bankruptcy are now waiting to see how the process unfolds.
