U.S. Senators Jerry Moran and Richard Blumenthal, the chairman and ranking member of the Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committee, introduced legislation to expand access to VA Fisher Houses for active-duty and reserve members of the U.S. Armed Forces and their families.

The proposed Fisher House Availability Act would allow servicemembers and their families to stay at no cost in VA Fisher Houses—built and donated by the Fisher House Foundation—when traveling long distances for medical care, whenever space is available. Previously, these facilities primarily served veterans.

The Fisher House Foundation recently celebrated the dedication of its 100th home and has provided more than 12.5 million nights of lodging for veterans, servicemembers, and their families. The legislation aims to ensure military families can stay close to their loved ones during medical treatment, reflecting ongoing support for those who have served the nation.
