Obituary- Eldon E. Cailteux

Eldon Emmanuel Cailteux, age 98, of Clyde, KS., passed away Thursday, December 29, 2022, at Park Villa Nursing Home, Clyde, KS. He was born on September 21, 1924, in Clyde, KS., to Homer A. Cailteux and Margaret (Wheeland).

A World War II veteran, Eldon entered the U.S. Naval Service on March 10, 1944, and served as a Motor Machinist’s, Second Class until his Honorable Discharge on May 24, 1946. A high point for his years of service was the Honor Flight in 2011, that he took with his brothers who also served in the military. After serving his country, Eldon married Betty L. Cronk, in August, 1949, and moved to Wichita, KS., where they had four children. While there, he began a 37 year career with Boeing Aircraft, in December, 1950, where he was a Pre Flight Electrician. In 1966, Eldon transferred with Boeing to their facility in Seattle, WA., and worked there until his retirement in April, 1987.

Following retirement Eldon moved back to Clyde, KS., with his wife Velma (Dennis). They would spend their Spring/ Summer months in Clyde, then travel to their home in Brownsville, TX., for the Fall/Winter months. Eldon had a keen sense of humor, with a mischievous laugh, and loved to dance. He also farmed the Cailteux Farm, in Clyde, for over 20 years with his brothers until 2014.

Eldon is survived by his 4 children, Linda (Steve) Schaich, Stephen Cailteux, Kathy (Tony) Menzie and Larry (Renee’) Cailteux; 13 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his 2 brothers, Ronel (Darlyne) and Myron (Sharon). He is preceded in death by his parents Homer and Margaret Cailteux,  brother Kenny Cailteux and sister-in-law Midgie (Knox) Cailteux.

Eldon will be with us in spirit during a visitation at Chaput Mortuary on Thursday, January 5th, from 1-8 pm, with family receiving friends from 5-7 pm and rosary at 6 pm. A Mass and funeral service will be on Friday, January 6th, at 11 am, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Clyde with Fr. Steven Heina officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery on Clyde, with Military Honors conducted by VFW post #7515.
