Royals Face Key Offseason Decisions Ahead of 2026

With the World Series ending this weekend, Kansas City’s offseason begins with several roster questions. Four players — Hunter Harvey, Luke Maile, Adam Frazier, and Mike Yastrzemski — are free agents, while the club must decide on contract options for Salvador Perez, Michael Lorenzen, and Randal Grichuk.

Arbitration-eligible players include Kris Bubic, Jonathan India, MJ Melendez, and Vinnie Pasquantino, among others. India’s future remains uncertain after a difficult first season with Kansas City, and Melendez could also be a non-tender candidate after spending much of 2025 in Triple-A.

Top prospects Frank Mozzicato, Ben Kudrna, Gavin Cross, and Steven Zobac are expected to be added to the 40-man roster to avoid the Rule 5 Draft. Offensively, the Royals plan to seek outfield upgrades this winter, though trades appear more likely than major free-agent signings as Kansas City looks to improve its lineup.
