Traffic Infraction Led to a Chase in Riley and Clay County

Riley County, KS- Just before 8 PM last night, an officer with the Riley County Police Department responded to a report of cattle in the roadway.

Aaron Wintermote, the RCPD PIO, continued that about an hour later the same officer pulled over an individual for a traffic infraction.

The officer then asked the individual to exit the vehicle and observed what he believed to be drugs in the vehicle. After being told he was going to detained, the individual ran, entered they’re vehicle, and drove off.

A pursuit ensued until they reached the Riley/Clay County line where law enforcement in Clay County took over and continued the chase.

Wintermote said he didn’t have details on the chase in Clay County, however he said the individual involved as of 9 am had not been detained. We have reached out to Clay County Sheriff’s Department and are waiting on a response.
