Abilene’s annual Purses for Moms initiative is underway, collecting handbags, toiletries, and small gifts for mothers whose children are part of the Hope Center’s Angel Tree program.

This year, the effort has expanded to include fathers, now called Purses for Moms and Bags for Dads. Amanda Robinson, director of Neighbor to Neighbor Abilene, said the change came after a single father picked up gifts last year and had nothing similar available.

The drive seeks both new and gently used purses or men’s travel bags, along with donated items like razors, perfumes, lotions, candies, and notebooks.

The collection runs through mid-November and typically gathers 150–200 purses. Items can be dropped off at Neighbor to Neighbor.
