Abilene USD 435 will launch its annual Summer Meals Program from June 2 to July 25 at Eisenhower and Kennedy elementary schools, with expanded weekend meal service. Families can now pick up meals for Friday through Sunday each Friday.

Open to all local children ages 1–18, regardless of school affiliation, the program offers free meals funded by the USDA and administered through the Kansas State Department of Education.

While registration is encouraged for accurate planning, unregistered families won’t be turned away. A new check-off list will track attendance and allow follow-up with families missing multiple pickups. This helps minimize waste and identify additional needs, such as enrollment or transportation assistance.

Transportation support includes OCCK’s Go Anywhere bus pass and Neighbor to Neighbor vouchers. The district is also planning around the July 3–4 holiday to ensure continuous service throughout the summer.
