On June 14th, 2025, at 2:49 a.m., a 1997 Ford F350 Pickup was southbound in the 2400 block of Bismark Road in Washington County when it lost control on the gravel road, resulting in it leaving the roadway, overturning, and coming to rest in a pasture.

The driver, age 18, was transported by EMS to Republic County Hospital. A passenger, age 15, was pronounced deceased at the scene and transported to Washington by Washington EMS. Two other passengers, a 17-year-old and 16-year-old, were evaluated on scene and not transported.

No occupants were using seatbelts and alcohol was a contributing factor in the accident. Investigation into the fatality accident is pending, and a report will be forwarded to the County Attorney.

We would like to thank the tremendous and dedicated response of the Washington Fire Dept, Washington EMS, Mahaska Fire Dept, Republic County EMS, and Jefferson County EMS. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends impacted by this incident.
