Melody A. Gillan, age 68, entered into rest on Saturday, July 1, 2023 at the North Central Kansas Medical Center, Concordia, Kansas. She was born July 14, 1954 in Gary, Indiana to Chester and Barbara (Thompson) Suroweic.
Melody was a 1972 graduate of Artesia High School, Artesia, California. She was a past member of the Elks Lodge, SOTF and L/ROC
She married Mark Gillan on June 8, 1991 in El Dorado, Kansas. They have lived in El Dorado, KS, Ocean Springs, Ms and later moved back to Mark’s hometown in Concordia, KS.
Melody had a zest for life that was infectious. She possessed an unwavering spirit of adventure and embraced new experiences with enthusiasm. She loved decorating her homes with her unique flare as well as sewing, fishing, gardening, and being outdoors, especially at a beach.
Family was paramount to Melody. She was a loving wife and parent and cherished every moment spent with her loved ones. She provided unwavering support, guidance, and unconditional love, and her presence will forever be cherished in the hearts of her family.
Melody had a heart full of compassion and a generous nature. She made a positive impact on the lives of many through her acts of kindness.
Melody leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience, and inspiration. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband, children, grandchildren, siblings, and extended family members. She also leaves behind a host of close friends who will forever treasure the memories shared together.
Melody is survived by her husband, Mark Gillan, Concordia, KS; 2 sons, Jason, Troxell, (Julie) of Corpus Christi, TX; Ryan Troxell, El Dorado, KS; 3 daughters, Alyssa Stewart (Ray) Ocean Springs, MS; Jessica Hood (Tom), Manhattan, KS; Lesly Barger (Cameron) Wichita, KS; 3 brothers, Chuck Suroweic (Debbie), Dayton, OH; Jeff Suroweic (Jerri), Oceanside, CA; Walter Suroweic (Danielle), Covina, CA; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her, parents.
A “Celebration of Life” to honor Melody’s life will be held Saturday. July 15th 2023 at Club Vaudeville located at 206 South Main, EL Dorado, KS 67042 from 4:00pm to 7:00pm with snacks & refreshments under a “Coastal” theme. Family and friends are invited to attend and pay their respects.
Inurnment of the cremated remains will take place in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Concordia, Kansas on a later date.
