The Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks (KDWP) has initiated an exploration into the issues surrounding baiting wildlife, which has raised concerns about the spread of transmissible diseases among animals. In a recent public panel discussion, subject matter experts from Kansas, North Dakota, and Oklahoma shared insights into the history of baiting, the risks of disease transmission, nutrition and toxins associated with baiting, and animal behavior. KDWP plans to hold town hall-style public meetings in the coming months to gather input from the broader public, including hunters, landowners, and industry members. While no official regulation recommendations are planned, baiting wildlife will be a regular discussion item in future Commission meetings. Baiting remains legal on private lands in Kansas.
