Obituary-Dr. Everett F. Miller

Dr. Everett Farrell Miller, 87, of Concordia, Kansas passed away on Thursday, October 5, 2023, at his home. He was born on April 26, 1936, in Bison, Kansas to Milton and Rachel (Beltz) Miller.

He graduated from Bison High School and went on to earn a bachelor’s degree from Fort Hays State University, a master’s degree from The University of Idaho, and a Ph. D. from Kansas State University. 

Everett married Marlene Eilrich on August 16, 1959, in Ellsworth, Kansas. This union brought three children, Shaun, Taunya, and Paula.

He put his musical degrees to work teaching first at Bison and then Great Bend before settling in Concordia in 1964. He taught at Concordia High School until 1968 when he started at Cloud County Community College where he remained until his retirement in 2013.

Everett was a proud member of the National Guard and later the American Legion in Concordia. He was a member of the Concordia Lutheran Church. 

Everett spearheaded the initiative to restore The Brown Grand Theatre and was a faithful member of the board. He served as chairman for many years. He also led the charge in planning and executing the 1995 celebration of the Camp Concordia POW Camp closing. 

Everett was a caring and hardworking person that was always on the go. He cared for his family and students. He enjoyed collecting cars, including Alpha Romeos.

Survived by his wife, Marlene; his children Shaun (Heejung) Miller of Concordia, KS, Taunya (Bak) Miller of Concordia, KS, and Paula Severn of Kearney, MO; grandchildren Ryan Miller, Hunter Severn, Karijanna Miller, Hannah Severn, Haley Severn, and Dahnbi Bak; great grandson, Eldon Miller; and sister Ramona Loucks.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Virgil Miller, and sisters, Darlene Burke, and Elila Newton.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, October 13, 2023, at the Brown Grand Theatre with Pastor Jim Winter officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Concordia, Kansas.  Visitation is Thursday October 12, 2023 from 1-8 PM at the Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home, Concordia, Kansas. Family will greet friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM
