Ila Holding Johnson, age 98, Lindsborg, KS resident, former Concordia, KS resident, passed away October 9, 2023 at the Bethany Home in Lindsborg, KS. Ila was born in Concordia, KS on October 31, 1924 to Samuel Edwin (Eddie) and Zella (Hogue) Holding. She attended Concordia schools and graduated from Concordia High School in 1942.
She received a teaching certificate from Kansas State University, Manhattan, KS and taught rural school in Cloud County. She taught at Union Starr School which was built by her great-grandfather in 1887 and the building is still standing. She also worked at the Concordia Chamber of Commerce, Pan American Airways, Miami, FL, and retired in 1991 from ERA First Realty, Englewood, FL.
On December 5, 1947, she married Marvin Johnson in Miami, FL. They later came back to Kansas to raise their family. Upon Marvin’s retirement they returned to Florida and enjoyed traveling on their sailboat around Florida and toured the United States in their motor home. She enjoyed working on her genealogy and spent many years doing research on all branches of her family.
She was Past President of American Legion Auxiliary Unit #76, Past President of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, Past Worthy Matron of Harmony Chapter #2 Order of Eastern Star, Salina KS, and was a member of Peace Court #60 Order of Amaranth, Punta Gorda, FL, Myakka Chapter Daughters of American Revolution, Venice, FL and Easter Star, Englewood, FL.
She was a member of the Fellowship Christian Church, (First Christian Church) Concordia, KS
Survivors include Sons Quentin Johnson, Ellsworth, KS, Keenan (Cindy) Johnson, Overland Park, KS, Grandchildren Kiel (Amanda) Johnson, Bucyrus, KS, Adrienne (Steve) Oh, Olathe, KS and Corey Johnson, Springfield, MO, Great-Grandchildren Kaylin Johnson, Keira Johnson, Charlie Oh, and Markus Oh.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Marvin, and two children Holly and Vance.
Graveside Services will be Saturday October 21, 2023 at 11:00am at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Concordia, KS.
In lieu of flowers, Memorials are suggested to the Fellowship Christian Church, Concordia, KS or to the Shriners Children’s Hospital.
