KDWP Updates Blue-Green Algae Advisory List

By Quinn O’Hara

The Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks has updated their blue-green algae advisory list as the summer water recreation season comes to an end and harmful algal blooms, or HABs, dissipate.

The following locations are under an HAB warning: Amesbury Lake in Johnson County, Big Eleven Lake in Wyandotte County, Frazier Lake in Grant County, Harvey County East Lake in Harvey County, Lake Afton in Sedgwick County, And South Lake in Johnson County. The warning for Fossil Lake in Russell County has been lowered to a watch, and the watch for Lovewell Lake in Jewell County has ended.

Remaining advisories will be lifted when blooms have dissipated. However, the Kansas Department of Health and Environment and the KDWP say that risks may extend past the recreation season and Kansans should remain vigilant year-round.
