In a bone-chilling game, the Kansas City Chiefs defeated the Miami Dolphins 26-7 in the fourth-coldest game in NFL history. Despite the cold and taking a hit in the second half that shattered his helmet, Patrick Mahomes threw for 262 yards and a touchdown. Rashee Rice had 130 yards and a touchdown, and Isiah Pacheco added 89 yards rushing and another score, propelling the Chiefs past the Dolphins for the first time in four postseason meetings.
At kickoff, the temperature was -4 degrees Fahrenheit, with wind gusts whipping through, driving the wind chill to -27 degrees, and setting a record for the coldest game at Arrowhead Stadium.
The Dolphins struggled on offense, going just 1 for 12 on third down and never really sustaining a drive until the fourth quarter. The Chiefs were able to score on four of their six first-half drives, but the Dolphins’ defense was able to hold the Chiefs to just a field goal in the third quarter. However, they were unable to stop them from scoring in the fourth quarter due to a late flag on Christian Wilkins for roughing the passer on third down, giving Kansas City a fresh set of downs and allowing Pacheco to plow into the end zone.
