Eric Coffman has been appointed as the new Geary County Sheriff, elected by the Geary County Republican Central Committee during a recent convention. His appointment comes for the remaining term, with no other candidates nominated. The decision now awaits approval from Governor Kelly, if there is no action taken by the Governor in seven days, Coffman will automatically assume the position.
Coffman, who has been Undersheriff since 2019, steps into the role left by the retiring Sheriff Dan Jackson on January 19th. He expressed gratitude to the Central Committee for their support, pledging not to let them down. The convention, attended by about 60 people, saw Coffman outlining his goals for the Sheriff’s Office, including achieving CALEA Accreditation and fostering stronger relations with other departments and community organizations. Capt. David Gilbert has been appointed by Coffman to serve as Undersheriff.
