On February 14, the Clay Counts Coalition Met for their regular monthly meeting.
The meeting began with a presentation by Wade Reh of K-State’s River Valley District Extension Offices on what services the District can provide for the communities they serve. Reh said K-State’s Extension Office’s find what’s not being done in a community, and step in to facilitate growth of that area.
Lori Martin, Raegan McDonald, and Izzy Blackwood of the Clay County YLinK Chapters presented on several large YLinK updates, including the proposed start of a TeenMates Mentorship program at Garfield Elementary. The program would have several CCCHS students become one on one mentors to students at Garfield Elementary where they would meet regularly to talk, play games, and forge a connection.
Niki Burwell presented her plans to make a community garden on the north side of the Clay County Health Department Building. She said she will meet with the Clay County Commissioners at their next meeting to discuss the idea further.
Lastly, the Coalition discussed the next Courageous Conversations night, which will be held on Monday, February 26. The topic will be sexual health and education for teens.
