On April 22, the Clay County Commissioners met for their regular weekly meeting.
EMS Director Alec Trembath reported that the department has been extremely busy with runs and out of town transfers. He states the department was on run number 242 for the year at the time of the meeting.
Clay County Sheriff Alan Benninga reported on the high-speed chase that took place Monday. The chase went through Clay County, Clay Center, and ended in Washington County. Benninga reported that the chase reached speeds of 120 MPH. He said there were no Officer or citizen injuries during the chase. He also reported that CCCHS’s Prom on April 20 went well with no issues.
Clay County Museum Curator Jeff Gaiser, Grace Kensa, and Pat Gilbert discussed the potential purchase of a souvenir penny press for the Museum. The group said the press would be a new tourist base item to the County. They reported that of the 31 penny presses in the state of Kansas, just one is located in a Museum. The cost of the machine would be $6,575 but the cost of any potential artwork designs is not included in the bid. The Commissioners donated $2,000 out of the Travel & Tourism Fund for the purchase of the press.
