In Manhattan, a group of caring and dedicated men came together to form the non-profit known as The Guardians in 2013. Their vision was to help men in the greater Manhattan area by providing essential funds through the Greater Manhattan Community Foundation (GMCF) to men who may need help getting on their feet.

Vern Henricks, President & CEO of the GMCF and Board member of the Guardians, said this organization started after noticing there wasn’t an organization for men.

The Foundation is a grant-funded organization, raising around $50,000 a year to help men in need. Henricks said these grants are to help move someone forward.
