John Kern, an agricultural education teacher and FFA Advisor at Washington County High School, received the 2024 Kansas State Golden Owl Award at the 96th Kansas FFA Convention in Manhattan.
With 26 years of teaching experience, Kern has mentored 12 students who became agricultural education teachers and guided many to state and national awards. His involvement includes workforce readiness initiatives, internships, and industry certifications. He also participates in professional development, mentoring, and presenting at workshops.
The Golden Owl program recognizes and rewards outstanding educators for their dedication and hard work in shaping the future of the agricultural industry. Kern received $3,000 and the Gold Owl Award trophy, while regional nominees received $500 and an engraved plaque.
