Edge District Expansion: New Office Building Boosts Economic Growth and Job Creation in K-State’s North Campus Corridor

By Trish Svoboda

A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held on Thursday, June 20, at 4:30 p.m. to celebrate the completion of the latest office building in the Edge District. This event will be attended by representatives from Kansas State University and the KSU Foundation, along with various partners.

Located at 1960 Kimball Ave., Manhattan, Kansas, this new addition has 80,000 square feet of office space. It’s situated near the university campus and the National Bio and Agro-Defense Facility, making it an ideal location for university partners. These partners will have the opportunity to utilize K-State’s resources while also bringing their industry knowledge to the university’s academic and research initiatives, and facilitating the recruitment of student talent. The building, which can accommodate 250 employees, expands the total office and laboratory space in the Edge District to 300,000 square feet.

The Edge is a growing economic development situated along the North Campus Corridor of K-State. Its comprehensive plan includes 500 acres and boasts $2 billion in infrastructure, both existing and planned. It collaborates with major partners such as Burns & McDonnell, the Kansas Department of Agriculture, the U.S. Department of Agriculture, McCownGordon Construction, Stormont Vail Health, and Sink Gordon Accountants & Advisors LLP. The district is also home to Rockin K’s restaurant and a branch of Brothers Coffee Co. To date, the district has generated approximately 1,400 jobs, with projections estimating a total of 5,000 jobs by 2035.

Construction on the building at 1960 Kimball Ave. started in April 2023. It is 50% preleased and will soon house K-State’s Office of Corporate Engagement. To find out more information about the Edge District, visit ksiteonline.com.
