Governor Laura Kelly and Transportation Secretary Calvin Reed revealed on June 28 that the Kansas Department of Transportation’s Cost Share Program will allocate $8.6 million for 14 transportation construction projects in spring 2024. Highlighting the program’s impact, Governor Kelly praised the 104th Street sidewalk expansion in Edwardsville, emphasizing its role in improving pedestrian access from K-32 to the local elementary school. This initiative aims to enhance safety and facilitate non-motorized commuting for school and recreational purposes within the community.
Since the fall of 2019, when the Cost Share Program was introduced, over $260 million has been invested to support the selected 179 projects. With $146 million in state funding combined with over $115 million in matching local funds, this is a significant boost to communities in Kansas.
Transportation project submissions must improve safety, support job retention and growth, relieve congestion and improve access and mobility. The program is a component of Governor Kelly’s bipartisan 10-year Eisenhower Legacy Transportation Program, also known as IKE.
