Geary County Emergency Services reported that Friday’s storm that ripped through Junction City had straight-line wind speeds between 80 and 90 miles per hour, this report came after consulting with the National Weather Service on the damage and radar images.

The evening also brought extensive rain and flooding, with some areas getting between 5 ½ to 7 plus inches of rain. Several streets and intersections were flooded with water from 1 to 2 feet in some areas.

The storm brought down multiple tree limbs and produced multiple power outages. The storm also caused a partial collapse of a vacant building in the downtown area. As of Monday, crews were still working to clean up tree limbs and repair damaged traffic lights. While the damage was extensive no major injuries have been reported.
