Governor Laura Kelly announced today that June’s total tax collections reached $1.03 billion, exceeding estimates by $24.1 million, or 2.4%. Compared to June 2023, total tax collections increased by 3.9%.

Individual income tax collections totaled $452.4 million, surpassing estimates by $82.4 million, or 22.3%, and marking a 19.4% increase from June 2023. Meanwhile, corporate income tax collections amounted to $193.1 million, falling short of estimates by $53.9 million, or 21.8%, and decreasing by 14.6% compared to June 2023.

Secretary of Revenue Mark Burghart attributed the higher-than-expected individual income tax receipts to increased withholding tax and individual estimated payments, coupled with fewer refunds compared to June 2023. He highlighted that withholding tax receipts grew by 17.0% from the previous year, remaining the state’s most reliable revenue source.

Combined retail sales and compensating use tax receipts totaled $292.1 million, slightly exceeding estimates by $2.2 million, or 0.7%, but declining by $11.4 million, or 3.8%, from June 2023.
