River Valley District to Hold Healthy Meal Classes for Those on a Limited Budget

By Ryan Duey

The K-State Extension River Valley District will offer Free Nutrition Classes to people on limited food budgets. The Create Better Health Program is offered through Kansas’ SNAP-Ed Nutrition Program. Six different classes will be offered at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Washington. The classes will be held on August 13th, 20th, and 27th, and on September 10th, 17th, and 24th. All classes will run from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.

Karra James, SNAP Nutrition Educator, said the classes are designed to teach attendees how to eat well and be active on a limited budget.

These classes are geared toward adults aged 18 to over 60, but children in third grade and up are welcome with an adult. James said while anyone can call to sign up, the classes are geared to certain individuals.

Patrons can sign up for as many classes as they like. James said patrons who attend all six classes will get a free $30 appliance. Call any local Extension office to register. Contact Karra James at the Clay Center office for more information or questions.
