By Quinn O’Hara

Seven Scouts and three Leaders of Clay Center’s Scouts BSA Girls Troop 254g took a camping trip to the Dane G. Hansen Scout Reservation in Kirwin, Ks from June 16 to June 22.

The trip was one of the first outings of Troop 254g, which held its first meetings in March of this year. The camping trip was also a first experience for 9 of the 10 attendees, said Scoutmaster Jeanna Fancella.

She said the Scouts participated in rank advancement training activities and worked for a wide variety of merit badges for First Aid, Camping, Wilderness Survival, Swimming, Kayaking, Golf, Wood Carving, Weather, Archery, Basketry, Indian Lore, Cooking, Personal Fitness and Astronomy. Fancella said though the weather was hot and windy, the scouts did a great job.

The trip ended with a Family Night on the last night of summer camp. 22 family members joined to support their scouts with dinner, a flag ceremony, and evening campfire activities.

A Court of Honors will take place soon where the Scouts will receive Rank, Merit Badges and Awards they completed at summer camp.
