Kansas Supreme Court Revokes Court Reporter’s Certification Amid Blackmail and Assault Allegations

The Kansas Supreme Court stripped Jessica Belcher, a former Wyandotte County District Court reporter, of her certification for failing to cooperate with an investigation into a blackmail scheme.

She was accused of attempting to extort $2,000 from a former boyfriend, a law enforcement officer, by threatening to reveal damaging information. Additional allegations included her verbal and physical assault at a shelter in Missouri.

Belcher did not participate in the disciplinary proceedings, leading the court to find her in violation of rules. The court raised concerns about pursuing ethics cases based on allegations of criminal offenses without convictions, leaving the issue unresolved.
