Clay Center Parks and Recreation offers a variety of youth sports throughout the year.
This fall, Flag Football and Girls Volleyball will be available for kids to participate in. Both sports will run from August 19th until October 19th.
Parks and Recreation Superintendent Patrick Hayes said the city seeks volunteer coaches for both programs.
Flag Football is split into two divisions: grades first and second and grades third and fourth. The divisions are determined by the grade the student is entering in the 2024-25 school year. Practices begin the program’s first week, and coaches will select the time and location. The games start September 7th and will be played on Saturdays.
Hayes stated, “Our flag football program will take place at the Rundle-Brown Athletic Complex.”
Girls’ Volleyball is also divided into two divisions, determined by the grade the player will be entering. Second and third graders participate in a volleyball clinic for five to six weeks, focusing on learning the sport. The clinic will be held on Sundays starting September 8th.
“The time is yet to be determined,” Hayes said.
Fourth, fifth, and sixth graders will compete with other teams. Coaches are responsible for selecting the time, day, and location for practices. Games will begin on September 8th on Sunday afternoons. Volleyball is set to take place at the CCCHS District Gym.
Hayes said that coaches will contact players with practice information after registering.
Registration for both sports is due August 5th.
