Residents in Area Counties living Outside of City Limits Can Fill out an Application to Help Replace Failing Septic Systems

By: Ryan Duey

Certain residents in Clay, Cloud, Marshall, Republic, and Washington Counties have the opportunity to fill out an application for a grant to help replace failing septic systems.  This grant program is designed for low-income households.

Marlene Stamm, Washington County Sanitarian, said this grant is to help residents outside of city limits, on private septic systems.

This grant program will be prioritized based on income levels, with the funds being spread out over the five counties. Stamm said that contacting her directly is the best way to get answers.

Homeowners with incomes below 133 percent of the poverty level are eligible for up to 75 percent of costs being covered. Homeowners with incomes between 134 and 200 percent can receive up to 50 percent of funding. The application deadline is Sunday, September 15th. Contact Stamm by phone at (785) 770-2057 or by emailing her at mstamm@washingtoncounty.ks.gov.
