New Kansas License Plate Design to Roll Out in January 2024

The new Kansas license plate design has been made official by Kansans. Starting January 2024, the Kansas Department of Revenue will replace all standard embossed license plates, as the current ones have significantly deteriorated. After five years, these plates lose about 50% of their reflectivity, impacting readability and law enforcement use.

The new design will be issued for all new plates and replacements. Kansans with the current “Ad Astra” design can transfer their registration to the new plate. Upon renewing your registration, you will receive a temporary tag and decal. Do not place the decal on the temporary plate. A permanent plate will be mailed to you within 30 days.

Visit your local county treasurer’s office to order your new plate today.
