Clay Center Community High School (CCCHS) held its inaugural Fall Sports Media Day, organized by Kelsie McFadden, ELA/Journalism teacher and yearbook advisor. Inspired by a similar event in Abilene, McFadden aimed to streamline the media process and give students practical experience.
“This is our first one,” McFadden explained. “We went and shadowed at Abilene in the spring and got to see how they do their media day. We were really inspired by their program and the way they have it set up because it allows all the students to get lots of pictures and it also helps us to expedite the process by doing it all in one day.”
The event provided opportunities for McFadden’s journalism and yearbook students to apply techniques learned in class, taking photos, recording videos, and conducting interviews. Although the event cut into the school day, McFadden noted the benefit: “We’re not having to cut into practice time.”
Looking ahead, McFadden shared her excitement about the impact of this event on her program. “I’m excited for students to use this footage, the pictures, the videos, and the interviews to create content for our social media pages and just get some good hands-on learning,” she said.
