K-State Salina Hosts Eighth Annual Girls in Aviation Day for K-12 Students on Sept. 21

Kansas State University Salina invites K-12 students and their guardians to the eighth annual Girls in Aviation Day, a free event for girls to explore the aviation world on Saturday, Sept. 21. Hosted by the Women in Aviation student group, the event offers a chance to connect with peers and professionals, discover aviation career opportunities, and engage in hands-on activities such as flight simulations and a build-your-own airport project.

The event runs from 8:30 a.m. to noon at the K-State Salina Aviation Maintenance Hangar, 245 Hein Ave., Salina. Girls in Aviation Day highlights the campus’s commitment to community outreach and increasing female representation in aviation by offering immersive experiences and connecting young enthusiasts with students and faculty.

“Girls in Aviation Day is important to our club, Women in Aviation, because we help inspire and empower young girls in the community to consider careers in the aviation and aerospace industries,” said Laikyn LeFever, sophomore in aviation maintenance management and professional pilot, Pittsburg. “This day provides opportunities for girls to meet female role models, and it helps to break down stereotypes and encourages more women to enter and thrive in these traditionally male-dominated fields.”
