K-State Salina’s AARC Enhances Disaster Response with Drone Technology and Event Data

Kansas State University’s Salina Applied Aviation Research Center (AARC) is leveraging data from large-scale events to improve disaster response efforts. After supporting the Kansas Highway Patrol at the Kansas State Fair with drone technology, AARC is using insights gained from this and previous events to enhance public safety.

At the fair, the AARC provided live aerial footage to law enforcement, allowing real-time monitoring and efficient deployment of officers. This support followed their earlier work at the Kelce Jam festival, where they also helped manage large crowds.

AARC’s efforts extend to working with the Federal Aviation Administration and Kansas Department of Transportation to develop new technologies and streamlined processes for emergency responses. By studying communication and technology challenges at large events, AARC aims to refine practices and improve disaster readiness. The research gathered is instrumental in enhancing industry standards and response efficiency during emergencies.
