Kansas State suffered its first loss of the season, falling 38-9 to BYU at LaVell Edwards Stadium on Saturday night. The Wildcats, ranked No. 13, led 6-3 late in the second quarter before a series of mistakes allowed BYU to take control.
A fumble recovery and touchdown by BYU’s Tommy Prassas and an interception led to a 17-6 BYU lead at halftime. In the third quarter, another interception set up a BYU touchdown, followed by a 90-yard punt return, extending the Cougars’ lead to 31-6. K-State managed only a field goal in the second half.
Avery Johnson completed 15-of-28 passes for 130 yards with two interceptions and rushed for 74 yards. DJ Giddens added 93 rushing yards. BYU quarterback Jeff Retzlaff threw for 149 yards and two touchdowns as BYU improved to 4-0. K-State dropped to 3-1 on the season.
