Marysville U.P. Depot Preservation Society Begins Fall Fund Drive

By: Ryan Duey

The Marysville Union Pacific Depot Preservation Society has launched a fall fundraising drive to raise $400,000 to install heating and air conditioning in the historic 1929 train depot. The nonprofit, which owns the building, aims to make it usable year-round.

Since its purchase, the society has restored much of the depot’s original Spanish Mission style, designed by famed architect Gilbert Stanley Underwood. Renovations include the grand hall with arched ceilings, stained-glass windows, an educational rail history display, a catering kitchen, and the revitalization of the platform and grounds.

The total HVAC project cost is estimated at $500,000, with $100,000 already raised. The society hopes to attract donors locally and beyond, with the support of new board member Jon Germer, a former Union Pacific official.

Upcoming events at the depot include a homecoming dance, a family campout, and the unveiling of bronze plaques marking its inclusion on the National Register of Historic Places. Donations can be sent to the Depot Preservation Society.
