The Kansas City Chiefs placed leading wide receiver Rashee Rice on injured reserve following a knee injury sustained in last week’s game against the Los Angeles Chargers. The injury occurred when quarterback Patrick Mahomes inadvertently collided with Rice’s knee while chasing a fumble. As a result, Rice will miss at least the next four games.
Rice, who leads the team with 24 receptions and 288 yards in four games, will undergo further evaluation once the swelling in his knee subsides. There remains hope he could return this season, though no timeline has been confirmed.
With Rice sidelined and Hollywood Brown out for the season, the Chiefs are exploring potential trades for a wide receiver. Kansas City has previously made midseason moves, acquiring Kadarius Toney in 2022 and Mecole Hardman in 2023.
The Chiefs have been linked to veteran wide receivers like DeAndre Hopkins, who signed with the Titans, and could inquire about other options depending on Rice’s status. Coach Andy Reid remains optimistic, telling ESPN, “There are other guys that are very good, so we’ll be fine.”
Meanwhile, running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire began his practice window as he works his way back from the non-football injury list.
