Jayhawks Split Series with Creighton, Highlighted by Siddons’ Hat Trick

By Jayson Henderson

The Kansas Jayhawks hockey team split their two-game series against Creighton over the weekend. In the first game, Creighton took control early and held off a Jayhawk comeback to secure an 8-5 win. Kansas fell behind 5-0 before Zach Roberts, Brett Siddons, and Graham Erickson scored to close the gap to 6-3 by the end of the second period. Erickson added two more goals, but Creighton responded each time to keep the lead.

In the second matchup, the Jayhawks bounced back for a 7-5 victory. Brett Siddons recorded a hat trick (when a player scores three goals in a single game), helping Kansas build a 6-3 lead by the end of the second. Jackson Fischer scored a crucial insurance goal (a goal giving a team a two-point lead over the opposing team) in the third to make it 7-5. Goalie Kai Vetter made key stops down the stretch to preserve the win. The Jayhawks’ next series is scheduled for October 18-19 against Dordt University.
