Then & Now: K-State Football vs. Colorado

Saturday, Oct. 12th, K-State will take on Colorado for the first time since 2010. 

In the above photos, 1955 CCCHS graduate, Don Martin, ‘59 was featured in the game’s program. Martin played for K-State for four years, three of which he earned a varsity letter. Martin later declined joining the NFL to remain in the area and farm.

Arlin Hubka ‘58, played for the University of Colorado. He is the grandfather of Clay Center resident, Brett Hubka. He met and married Brett’s grandmother, Nancy (Angle) Hubka ‘58, ‘74 at the University. Today, Arlin lives in Denver.

Colorado won the game 0-36 on their home field.

Brett ‘08 and his wife, Karli ‘10, are proud K-State graduates. 

Colorado was part of the Pac-12 Conference from 2011 to 2023 and re-joined the Big 12. Prior to that they were part of the Big 8, joining in 1947.

Between 1912 and 2010:

K-State has won 20 times and Colorado 45; there was one tie in 1993 with 16 points each.

The first game was won by K-State, 14-6 and the last game lost, 36-44.

Colorado’s longest winning streak held from 1954 to 1963 and K-State’s held from 1997 to 2000.

The Buffaloes have held seven shut-out games against the Wildcats and have scored at least six points in every game themselves. 

K-State’s largest margin of victory was 38-6 in 1984.

The span includes 18 head coaches for Colorado and 22 for the Wildcats.

The game will take place at 9:15 pm central time on Colorado’s Folsom Field. It has served as the team’s gridiron host since 1924.
