The Mothership Consignment Store will open at 314 Lincoln Avenue in Clay Center on November 1st. Owner Rachael Greenlee says the business’s name unfolded after conversations with a friend, “The store was always an idea in my head. Fashion has been my life forever and I was ready to do something that didn’t feel like work that I could just pour my whole heart into. The name itself kind of evolved. I guess it started as the motherload, and when talking to one of my best friends, we decided it would be cool to say, ‘I got it from The Mothership”.
Much like the name, the store will continue to evolve. What started as a one-time pop-up shop on Piotique Saturday will now be open five days a week in Clay Center. Greenlee talks more about the business in its current state, “It’s starting right now as just men’s and women’s clothing, accessories, and shoes, but I hope to grow it to kids clothes, baby clothes, furniture, that sort of thing. Right now, I don’t want to do booth consignors. I want to have my touches on it. Maybe someday I’ll do that with more space, but right now, I want the store to be, you know, mine.”
Greenlee will only accept items on a consignment basis with a signed contract that includes pricing and the time the items will be available for sale. In addition to expanding the clothing offerings, future plans include live music on the store’s patio on Friday and Saturday nights.
