Obituary-Shirley Racette

Shirley Ann (Resco) Racette, age 92, passed away peacefully on October 8, 2024 at her home in Salina, KS. She was born on July 3, 1932 in Clyde, KS to Lloyd Edwin & Viola Emily (Donnelly) Resco. Shirley was a graduate of Clyde High School class of 1950.  On September 11, 1950, Shirley married Romanus “Bob” Racette in Clyde, Kansas.  The day following their wedding, Bob was inducted into the U.S. Army and served in Korea.

Shirley worked in the office for Alco for many years.  She was a former member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, and Altar Society in Larned, Kansas. She was a very devout Catholic and her unwavering faith carried her through the good times and the bad.

Shirley lived a long and full life, expressing unconditional love and selflessness.  She loved her family and enjoyed every minute she spent with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Family was her priority, and she was always happiest when spending time with them.  So many of the best memories were made at their home, especially during the holidays, birthdays, and other special occasions. She loved cooking/baking for her family especially the traditional Swiss chocolate cake for birthdays.  She was a very giving person, and always thought of others before herself. The highlight of her life was following/attending all the programs and sporting events of her children and grandchildren. She and Bob enjoyed camping and fishing at the lake with friends and family. After retirement, they belonged to a camping club and many times traveled south for the winters. In 2011, She and Bob moved to Loveland CO until 2019. Shortly after Bob’s death Shirley moved back to Kansas.

She is survived by her children, Larry Racette (Trudy), Lucas, TX; Kathy Kolb, Salina, KS; Kevin Racette (Barbara), Loveland, CO; and Lori Prescott, Salina KS; her seven grandchildren, Ann Collins, Ellsworth, KS, Amy Hallman (Rich), Blue Springs, MO, Brian Racette (Jenny) Valparaiso, IN, Julie Rembold (Dan), Lucas, TX, Scott Racette, Loveland, CO, Shane Carr, Dillon, CO, Shanna (Jon) Dooley, Hays, KS; 14 great-grandchildren, sisters-in-law, Darlene Weatherhead and Virginia Racette, and many nieces and nephews.

Shirley was preceded by her loving husband, Romanus “Bob” Racette, her parents; siblings: Freda Smith, Max Resco, Juanita Huncovsky & Donald Resco, and son-in-law, Kiah Kolb.

It was Shirley’s wishes to be cremated, and visitation will be held on Thursday, October 24, 2024 from 1:00 P.M.–8:00 P.M. with a Rosary Service held at 7 pm, at the Chaput Mortuary, Clyde.  The family will receive friends after the Rosary Service.

Memorial Mass of a Christian burial will be held 10:00 A.M., on Friday, October 25, 2024 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Clyde, Kansas with Fr. Steven Heina officiating.  Burial will follow in the Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Clyde.
