Annual Cloud County Toy Run Attracts More Than 100 Motorcyclists

Motorcycles from as far away as Wichita, Kansas participated in the Cloud County Toy Run on October 5th, 2024, in Concordia. The event, which consists of a parade, public auction, food, and music, had a great turnout this year with over 100 bikes.

Jon Puckett started the Cloud County Toy Run in 2021. It consists of a parade, a public auction, food, and music. Funds raised during the event are used to purchase gifts, jackets, undergarments, and blankets for children and teens in need at Christmas.

Committee members include Lisa Gropp, Jon Pucket, Camey Thurner, and Phil Sudduth. The Lions Club, American Legion, and the event’s sponsor, Abata of Kansas District #9, contribute to the event as well.

Gropp said that the entry to get into the parade is one unwrapped toy. After the parade, a free-will donation meal and auction are held.

“Monetary donations, items for the auction, and toys are collected from various businesses, individuals, and clubs throughout Cloud County by the Toy Run Committee,” Gropp said.

After the event, Thurner purchases additional items needed and disperses the toys among the community to those in need. “Applications are submitted by families, listing the number of children, ages, and a few ideas of what they would like to get for Christmas. The items that do not get donated, especially those for teens, are purchased with the funds donated and received at the auction,” said Gropp.

Each child usually receives at least one gift from their Wishlist, as well as socks and a blanket.

“We are so grateful for the generosity of our community and bikers that helped make this event so successful! We couldn’t do this without them.”
