The Kansas State Wildcats concluded their season Friday night with a 2-0 loss to the Kansas Jayhawks in the Dillons Sunflower Showdown at Buser Family Park. After a strong first half, K-State found itself tied with Kansas in shots, 6-6. However, Kansas gained momentum in the second half, scoring twice to secure the win.
Kansas struck first in the 54th minute, with Caroline Castans placing a shot just under the crossbar. Castans added another goal shortly after, putting the game out of reach for K-State. Kansas outshot the Wildcats 17-7, with a 9-3 advantage in shots on target.
K-State finishes the season at 3-12-3 overall and 0-9-2 in Big 12 play. Notable performances included goalkeeper Murphy Sheaff, who made seven saves, moving her into second in program history for career saves with 184. Junior defender Jazmin Brown logged 90 minutes, boosting her career total to fourth in program history, while seniors Adah Anderson and Riley Baker wrapped up their careers, ranking in the top 10 for most games played.
Despite a challenging season, K-State looks to next year with a roster poised for growth, aiming to build on their experience as they prepare for the 2025 campaign.
