On October 25, 2024, Kansas Governor Laura Kelly, joined by ten Kansas County employee veterans, proclaimed November 4-11 as Operation Green Light Week in Kansas. Starting Monday, November 4, the Kansas Association of Counties (KAC) and over 40 county governments across the state will illuminate courthouses, county buildings, and KAC’s Topeka office in green to honor veterans.
Operation Green Light, now in its third year, is a nationwide initiative by the National Association of Counties (NACo) and the National Association of County Veterans Service Officers to show support for veterans and increase awareness of available resources at all government levels. This program emphasizes the critical role counties play in assisting veterans, with County Veterans Service Officers helping access over $52 billion annually in federal benefits.
Kansas counties also encourage residents, businesses, and organizations to participate by switching one home or business light to green. This visible show of support can be on an exterior light or an interior fixture to inspire conversations on veterans’ contributions and needs.
