Kansas Secretary of State Scott Schwab has announced that the election night reporting webpage will go live today at 5 p.m. on the Secretary of State’s website, where Kansans can view unofficial election results. This site will serve as the main source for statewide results as counties report after tallying votes. When polls close at 7 p.m. local time, initial results—primarily from advance voting—will appear on the webpage, with Election Day ballots updated throughout the evening. Provisional ballots won’t be counted until the County Board of Canvassers convenes, by November 18 at the latest.
In addition, Kansas allows a three-day grace period for advance mail ballots. Ballots postmarked by November 5 and received by county election offices by November 8 will also be counted, causing a slight increase in unofficial totals on the webpage between November 6 and 8:
1. Any ballots that were hand counted.
2. Mail ballots received on or before election day but not yet processed.
3. Mail ballots that were postmarked by election day and still being processed.
4. Any other legally cast ballots not included in Tuesday’s unofficial count.
Official results will be provided on the Secretary of State’s website after the State Board of Canvassers have certified the election. This will take place on December 2.
“Although we are all eager for final results, please remember that election night results are unofficial,” Schwab said. “Presidential elections naturally drive higher voter turnout, so please be patient with county election officials as they work to ensure accurate results.”
