Washburn University senior Peyton Price, an Entrepreneurship and Marketing major from Topeka, won the university’s annual Pitch Competition with her innovative idea, “HydraKick,” an electrolyte-infused alcoholic beverage. Hosted by the Washburn School of Business, the competition encourages students to develop and share business ideas in a supportive environment. Open to all Washburn students, including those from Washburn Tech, the event awards $25,000 in cash prizes, sponsored by GO Topeka, to help winning students launch their business ventures.
Chase Ryckman, a freshman from Overland Park, earned second place for his pitch, “Sky Safe Signal,” a mini drone distress signal. Emily Harmon, a sophomore from Topeka, took third place with “Pocket Keys,” a fidget toy inspired by the trumpet. Mersadie Spray, a freshman from Great Bend, placed fourth with “Athlete4Christ,” a Bible study app. Kody Nicklin, a freshman from Topeka, came in fifth with “Mobile Hope,” his concept for tiny homes as disaster relief.
Jack Pekarek from Topeka received the Top Freshman award for his subscription-based “Wellness AI” concept, while Xavior Tauber, also from Topeka, earned the Top Washburn Tech award for his innovative hydrogen motor design.
Registration for the Fall 2025 Pitch Competition opens in September 2025.
