The River Valley Extension District will host a “Managing Predation Program” in Washington for area farmers, ranchers, outdoorsmen and women, or anyone else interested in predator identification on Thursday, December 5th starting at 6:00 p.m. This event will take place in the KSDS East Building Meeting Room.
The Program will feature Extension Wildlife Specialist Drew Ricketts, speaking on livestock and predators. Kaitlyn Nelson, Livestock Production Agent, spoke about what this Program will focus on.
“This Program is going to provide information on trying to identify the cause of death in livestock that you might find out in the pasture and things like that. What to do if you find that livestock and how to determine the type of predator. So basically, this Program is looking at predation, so we’re going to focus mainly on the different types of predators that might be causing death in our livestock. Along with these topics, participants will also learn about coyote biology, trapping, and calling, as the coyote population continues to grow in Kansas.”
The Program is free to attend, and a light meal will be provided. Registration is requested by Friday, November 29th so they can have a meal count. For more information on the Program or to register contact Nelson at the Washington County Extension office at (785) 325-2121.
