The Clay Center American Legion Post 101 recently donated 500 anti-bullying comic books to the Clay Center Police Department. These comic books will be used in the schools during their anti-bullying programming.
American Legion Commander Curtis Swarts explained the unique way this donation came to be, which all started during this year’s Piotique Celebration.
“We were handing comic books out during Piotique, and one happened to be the anti-bullying comic book, and we didn’t have very many copies. Chief Robinson came by and looked at it, and he said, oh, that’d be nice. He made mention of it again, talking about his anti-bullying campaign. So, when we got together at our next meeting, it was brought up in the meeting, we were like, hey, let’s see if he would like some of these. So, I gave him a call and asked him if he would like 500 copies of this comic book, and he was hesitant at first, I think because he thought we were going to charge him. And we said, no, we’re donating them because that’s part of our program of support in the community.”
Gestures like this one highlight the organization and community’s dedication to supporting local law enforcement and other community entities as a whole.
